Missing

A bit long but not too over dramatic, politico-thriller from Costa-Gavras, with a great performance from Jack Lemon.

Le premier venu

good film from Jacques Doillon, but fairly depressing, the fact that it is in Picardie with low life locals doesn't help, and the main characters are not particularly sympathetic.

Blood wedding

First film in the Saura dancing trilogy, I'm not a hug fan of flamenco but this was very good, with very dynamic filming.

Boarding Gate

Another bad Assayas, pretentious, messy, crappy story, ridiculous acting from Michael Madsen and Asia argento, badly art directed and photographed, i.e. looks very ugly. Things get a bit better when the action leaves the suburb of Paris to go to HK, and Kim Gordon and a small but good part, but thats not enough.

Les Plaisirs de la chair

A very complex film from Oshima, with very undertones about Japan's culture and society, and some intense editing, great colour scope photography too, would benefit from multiple viewings.

Drillbit Taylor

Owen Wilson is a filthy bum recruited by some dorks in high school who are bullied. Moderately funny and entertaining.

Radio On

Dark and moody 1980 English road movie between London and Bristol, co-produced by Wim Wenders and very much in the style of his 70s existential films. Great soundtrack, and B&W photography, not much dialogues, great.

Hulk

Expected a not so good blockbuster, and got a terrible one, bad special effect, crap story, and crap acting. Awful.

We own the night

I didn't care much for the previous films from James Gray, but really liked that one, set in the late 80's music, with good music and good actors. The story is fairly standard and predictable, but a solid police/crime drama with some bad Russians.

Mon Oncle Antoine

Apparently the greatest Canadian film ever, is not bad but a bit conventional and looks more like a TV movie.

Thirst

An early Bergman with the characteristics of some his 60s films already, with a young tormented and unhappy couple trevelling across europe, traumas, and multiple stories and distressed women.

Vanishing point

A great cult film, much better than Easy Rider, on a similar theme, just 3 years later, the flashback scenes are short but very moving, and that Dodge Challenger supercharged is awesome.

Hotel des Ameriques

Big dark romantic drama from Techine with Deneuve and Deweare both very lost and disturbed in Biarritz.

Classe tout risque

Fairly solid french noirish film from Claude Sautet with Lino Venture, who only gives one big slap, a young Belmondo and a few good characters, starting in Italy, the riviera and finishing in Paris,
